A Sudden Downpour
October 1944, ground crew dash for shelter under a Short Stirling Mk IV of 299 Squadron at RAF Wethersfield, Essex, England. 299 and 196 squadrons had to depart the airfield in January 1945 after only four months as the severe Winter weather caused substantial damage to the runways.
I fancied depicting some typical English weather in a painting and as Wethersfield is only a few miles from where I live, it has local interest for me. My thanks to the team at Wethersfield Airfield Museum for useful references. Oil on canvas.
