This painting depicts German soldiers of I Battalion (Force Protection), Objektschutzregiment der Luftwaffe deployed to Mali as part of MINUSMA, the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali. MINUSMA was established in April 2013 to support political processes intended to bring about the transition to peace and constitutional order in the country.

German peacekeeping forces were deployed to Mali under MINUSMA from 2016 to 2023 and this particular scene incorporates all the elements of a rapid reaction force deployed to deal with medical treatment, securing of the position and emergency evacuation. Commissioned to mark the end of the seven year deployment, the painting is based on a real event and includes medevac CH-53G helicopters, Eagle, Fuchs and Dingo vehicles as well as troops and portable medical kit. The badges depict the four Squadrons and the larger one is the Battalion crest.
